Telling Our Stories

On 14 January 2012, 200 people joined the Telling Our Stories at Bristol’s MShed, a vibrant programme of disabled and Deaf artists, writers, film and theatre makers in celebration of UK Disability History Month.

Audiences watched disabled theatre makers explore The Tempest, enjoyed poetry created in British Sign Language, found out how performers with learning difficulties amused Henry VIII, learned about The Bristol Guild of the Poor Brave Things, and much, much more.

Telling Our Stories was a collaboration between Redweather, Roaring Girl Productions, VS1 Productions, All the King’s Fools, Artists First, Firebird Theatre and Misfits Theatre. UK Disability History Month explores disabled people’s often forgotten history, as well as celebrating disability arts and culture.

Organiser Ann Pugh, of Redweather Productions, says “We are proud to have celebrated disabled and Deaf artists of international repute from Bristol and further afield and are delighted at the welcome and enthusiasm from large audiences throughout the day. Please watch this space for future events!”

Telling Our Stories was one of a series of events taking place alongside Resistance on Tour.
