The Access Tripod

  • Many people from around the world have contacted us to find out whether The Access Tripod is ready for release. Unfortunately, the project is currently stalled at the second prototype stage because we have run out of staff time and funds to take it further. If you have organisational or technical design skills and would be interested in taking the project through to completion, please contact us.

Introduction

Picture of The Access Tripod - latest prototype[d]

The Access Tripod is a project to devise and build a low-cost tripod for independent and professional use by wheelchair-users. It will encompass tripod and hand-held aspects of digital video camera use whilst allowing the user to retain full mobility. With The Access Tripod, disabled filmmakers will be calling the shots themselves.

The design will be lightweight and professional looking and simple enough to be replicated by anyone with basic engineering knowledge. It will be made of easily obtainable materials and cost about the same to make as to buy a standard (inaccessible) tripod. The finished product will be usable by professional and leisure camera operators around the world.

Once the tripod has been fully tested, construction plans will be drawn up and placed on the Web for individuals and organisations to download for their own free and non-profit use. The plans will be accompanied by construction guidance which will enable individuals to make and adapt the tripod for their own use.

The Access Tripod is a collaboration between Roaring Girl Productions and Torvine Technical Consultants in Weston-super-Mare, UK.

Money, money, money

We need your help to complete the design and to make the designs public, including the costs of drawing up a manual and construction plans. The project team is looking for offers of help (monetary or in kind). Please contact us.
