The Resistance symposium sets out to explore contemporary critical and cultural representations of disability from both an academic perspective and from the perspective of practising artists and arts organisations. The symposium will include presentations by Liz Crow, Professor Dan Goodley and Dr Lucy Burke of the Critical Disability Studies network at Manchester Metropolitan University and a roundtable discussion involving Liz Crow and Chris Hammond of Full Circle Arts.

Session One: Critical and Cultural Disability Studies Today
11.00am: Presentation by Professor Dan Goodley, MMU
12.00pm: Presentation by Dr Lucy Burke, MMU, ‘Disability is Ordinary’
1.00pm: Lunch and an opportunity to view the exhibition
2.00pm: Presentation by Liz Crow: The Making of Resistance, including the historical background and the core messages for the disabled people’s movement today
3.00pm: Coffee
3.30pm: Disability Arts Today Roundtable Discussion
4.45pm: Close
